Found on Genforum about Sanford Porter and Nancy Warriner
In Reply to: Sanford Porter & Nancy Warriner by Gayle Dickson of 9972
My mother was a PORTER.
Sanford PORTER, 3rd child of Nathan PORTER and Susannah WEST, was my gg grandfather.
b. 7 Mar 1790 Brimfield, Hampshire,Mass. d. 9 Feb 1873 Porterville, Morgan, Utah. Buried 11 Feb in old Porterville Cemetery beside his wife Nancy WARRINER. They were married 1 Jan 1812 in Vershire, Orange, Vt.
Soon after war was declared he was drafted out of his militia company to serve at Black Rock, 4 Mi. from Buffalo City on Lake Erie.
Nancy Areta PORTER was 8th child of Sanford, Sr. and Nancy Warriner b. 8 Aug 1825 in Vienna, Liberty, Ohio. d. 13 Nov 1888.
Her youngest brother, Lyman Wight PORTER, 13th child of Sanford and Nancy, was my great grandfather. "In 1856 Lyman was one of the heroic party sent to rescue the belated and suffering Hand Cart Companies (of Mormon Pioneers)." During the winter of 1857-58, Lyman was one of fifteen scouts under Porter Rockwell and Lot Smith who non-violently "entertained" Johnston's Army in Echo Canyon. While doing so, Lyman's brother Sanford Jr. discovered a little valley 5 mi. from Morgan City, Utah where Sanford Sr., Lyman and three brothers settled and built a sawmill.
